Sustainability is at the core of our invention approach. We believe in solving real world problems, whilst creating value for ourselves and our investors. We invent using an innovative strategic process with proven tools and methods. Our first invention, the 1nhaler, has been spun-out as a fully funded, independent start-up business. The second invention, KELP, a revolutionary tidal energy turbine is in the early stages of development.

About the 1nhaler

The 1nhaler is an invention that will deliver a global impact: making life saving drugs more available to more people around the world.

The 1nhaler is a simple, breath-activated, single dose, disposable dry powder inhaler that is the size of a business card. The highly inventive, patent pending mechanism for drug delivery allows the 1nhaler to transform from its basic 2D flat shape into a 3D inhaler that can deliver a broad variety of inhalable drugs.

The device is completely flat in storage, and as a result is uniquely portable and distributable. The 1nhaler will be fully recyclable at launch. As a dry powder inhaler, it will help replace traditional inhalers that have been estimated to account for almost 4% of the greenhouse gas emissions.

There is also potential for the 1nhaler drug delivery platform to deliver vaccines to prevent COVID-19 or future flu viruses, along with treatments such as anti-viral drugs directly to the lungs. We are currently exploring these possibilities as part of our development pathway.

The business, 1nhaler Ltd, sits in Scottish Enterprise’s High Growth Venture Portfolio and is currently in the late stages of development and commercialisation.

Don explains more about the 1nhaler in his TEDx talk below.

KELP Systems

The KELP tidal energy turbine system is a radical departure from existing ocean power generators. The design concept uses the principles of biomimicry to deliver huge efficiencies through materials and technologies that are carbon neutral and sustainable. Producing clean energy with zero impact on marine life or biology. The concept is at IP protection stage.

Climate change

One of the inspirations behind One Hundred Flowers is the inspiring work of Project Drawdown. The project shows many ways we can all contribute to reversing climate change. Due to our location in Scotland, we’ve specifically taken an interest in carbon capture technologies, marine permaculture and bioplastics. We have ideas in the pipeline. E.V.N – Our Venture Studio Model

We also have a unique model for commercial partnerships on invention or innovation projects. We call it the Equitable Value Network, initialised as EVN. In an EVN, everyone is even. It is a model for a new generation of Venture Studios (a term coined in Silicon Valley).

Rather than a traditional incubator model that houses and supports multiple startups, a Venture Studio is populated with seasoned inventors and innovators and focuses on finding valuable solutions to strategically targeted opportunities.
